Kurtis Lay is entering his third year as the head coach at Frank Phillips College. During the 2013 season under Kurtis the Plainsmen made history by going 35 and 21 and grabbed the first post season berth in the history of the program. Under his leadership the 2013 Plainsmen graduated six out of seven sophomores and finished the year with a 3.4 GPA.

Prior to his arrival at Frank Phillips he spent the 2010, 2011 school year at Cochise College in Douglas AZ. Kurtis began his coaching career at Lubbock Christian University where he served in the role of Graduate Assistant. Following his completion of Grad school Kurtis spent two seasons at Western Texas College where he served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. At Western Texas the club set team bests in overall and conference wins, as well as led the Westerners to the lowest ERA in programs history. Kurtis has spent two summers coaching and recruiting internationally in Alberta Canada, and Perth Western Australia.

Kurtis is originally from Abilene, TX and graduated from Abilene Cooper in 2002. Kurtis played junior college ball at North Central Texas College and Odessa College before returning home his junior and senior seasons to play for Coach Steve Coleman and the Hardin Simmons University Cowboys. While with Hardin Simmons Kurtis was a pitcher and designated hitter and achieved all region NABC honors during his junior and senior years.

Kurtis received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Fitness from Hardin Simmons University and in the winter of 2008 he received his Master of Education in Special Education from Lubbock Christian University.

Coach Eramo is entering his second year as assistant coach at Frank Phillips. Before this postion, he spent this last summer coaching in Denver Colorado for the Cage Rat Baseball organization. Mario played his first 2 years of ball at Blinn Jr. College, and then later transferred to Penn State University where he graduated with bachlors in Communications Arts and Sciences.

Coach Eramo is from Houston, Texas and graduated from Langham Creek High School in 07. Here at Frank Phillips he will be working with the catchers, offense, as well as assisting in recruiting.

Coach Schlegel enters his first year as an Assistant Coach after spending the summer with the Burkburnett Blacksox. Coach Schlegel has spent the past four summers with the Blacksox and has been apart of two coaching staffs that have take teams to the AABC World Series. Kevin served as an Assistant Coach at Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City last year. Before that he spent one year as Director of Baseball Operations at Nicholls State Universtiy. Coach Schlegel caught for two years at Northeast Texas Community College before transfering to Nicholls State to finish out his playing career. Kevin graduated from Nicholls State in 2010 with a bachelors in General Studies.

Kevin is from Oklahoma City, OK and graduated from Putnam City North High School in 2006. At Frank Phillips he will be working with infielders, offense, as well as assisting in recruting.
