Immediately upon registration, students should contact the online instructor with their email address and inquire about the first class meeting, which usually consists of a CAMs orientation. At this time, students will receive important information such as course URL, username, password, and navigation instructions. All students are required to follow copyright laws. CAMs is the online platform used for the creation and presentation of online courses at Frank Phillips College. This online platform allows instructors access to student documentation such as the number of times a student has accessed the course, chat logs, email documentation, as well as various other student tracking documentation. CAMs can be accessed from the Frank Phillips College Website: www.fpctx.edu.
Yes, all students taking online courses are required to have a computer and Internet access. Please see the technical requirements page for more information.

No, the glory of taking online courses is the freedom of choosing the day and time for coursework. Online instructors will call an online chat during the semester, and students will be given a specific day and time to access the chat room. Online students can work anywhere, anytime, in online courses.
Students may use the computers on campus in the HEROES Center, as well as library for online courses. Wireless Internet connectivity is also free to use on campus for registered students.
There is special software students must purchase if the software is not installed on their computer. These classes include: ITSW1307 Introduction to Database, COSC1401 Microcomputer Applications, and BCIS1405 Advanced Microcomputer Applications. Please contact the online instructor of these classes for software requirements.
All online students will access their online classroom from the Student Portal in CAMs, which will contain all course work and enable the student to communicate with the instructor.
Each online course contains a discussion forum area, where students can post questions to their classmates and instructors, and have access to the email function of the course, allowing them to email either a student from the course, all students from the course, or the instructor. Students will also have access to an online chat room in which to ask questions. Instructors are available via the phone during posted office hours, and students are encouraged to communicate via email regularly with their online instructor.
Yes, students are encouraged to interact through the discussion forum, and all instructors will require a student response to questions in this area for a grade.
Yes, the discussion forum is similar to an electronic bulletin board. All questions and postings are visible to the instructor and all online students in the course.
Online courses cater to the busy lifestyle of the student. Courses can be taken anytime, anywhere, and the student can continue work and family obligations while taking the course! Students simply log into the course when they are ready to complete the assignments for that week.
