They include tests in five areas: Language Arts, Writing; Social Studies; Science; Reading; and Mathematics. The questions in each of these tests require you to use general knowledge and thinking skills. Few questions ask about facts, details, or definitions. Even though you have not finished high school, you have probably gained knowledge and skills through experience, reading, and informal training. The GED tests are designed to measure the important knowledge and skills usually learned during four years of high school, but which you may have obtained in a different manner. You may take the tests if you are not enrolled in and have not graduated from high school and if you meet the eligibility requirements. Quick Facts about the GED:
GED Testing InformationTesting Eligibility The tests are offered to Texas residents age 18 or older. Seventeen-year-olds who are wanting to take the tests must present a written statement signed by a school official of the last school attended and a parent or guardian stating that the student is no longer enrolled in school and that they have permission to take the GED test. (Please contact our Testing Office for this form.) Sixteen-year-olds may test only if the test is recommended by a public agency having custody under a court order. The recommendation must be in writing on letterhead and include the applicant’s name, date of birth, and cause number. It must be signed by an official of that public agency. Registration All examinees must attend the registration before testing will be permitted. Items needed include Gov. photo identification, Social Security card, fees and appropriate eligibility document (see above) if under the age of 18. Registration times are posted monthly and may vary depending on the month that you want to test. Please call the GED Testing Center and inquire about registration date, time, and location on campus (806-457-4200 ext. 751 or 721 for more details). Testing Fees The GED testing fee of $85 must be paid in full when you report for registration. This fee is payable by cash, check, or money order. This fee will cover testing sessions, your score report and, if appropriate, your state certificate. If you are enrolled with an agency that is paying for the tests, be sure you have the proper billing or invoice documents with you when you report for registration. Retesting In order to retest, you must wait six months before retesting, participate in an adult education program, or have a certified teacher tutor you. When the teacher/instructor determines you are prepared, you may retest. Written permission from the teacher/instructor is necessary for retesting . Retesting fees are $17.00 for each subject. Testing Times GED testing will be available during the months
of February-April, June-July and October. Please call 806-457-4200, ext. 751 or 721 for specific testing times. Testing will be blocked into three sections. Section one will be Writing, section two will be Math and section three will be Science, Social Studies, and Reading. Section three of the GED will also be given on the following Friday. Only section 3 may be taken on the third Friday. Identification All students must present photo identification each time they test. Acceptable forms of ID include a Texas driver’s license, a Department of Public Safety (DPS) ID, a military ID, or a passport. Test Results You will receive your scores or certificate in the mail two to three weeks after taking the last test. Inquiries should be made with the Texas Education Agency at (512) 463-9292. Passing Scores The passing standard for Texas is a minimum score of 410 on each test and an average of 450 overall (2250 total points).
